Ten years ago, shipping a product meant a team, funding, and a year of your life. Today, one founder with AI tools can go from idea to live product in a weekend. Here’s what nobody tells you when they sell you on that speed: the map didn’t change. The stages are exactly the same as they were in 2015. What changed is how fast you move through them — and that only helps you if you know where you are.
So here’s the whole journey, compressed to five phases.
Know. Market analysis used to mean buying reports and weeks of desk research. Now one AI deep-research run gives you the competitive landscape in an afternoon — then narrow it. Your ICP isn’t “everyone who might pay.” It’s one specific person whose problem you understand better than they do. And do the money math early: your business model fits on one page — what it costs to win a customer, what that customer pays you back. If the numbers don’t work on paper, code won’t fix them.
Fuel. Fundraising is optional now — building got so cheap that you raise for speed, not survival. The team question follows the same logic: the fastest products right now ship from two or three people wearing five hats each. Hire when it hurts, not before.
Build. This isn’t “write code” — it’s a loop. Product management gives you the next hypothesis. You test it with the smallest MVP that can prove it, often vibe-coded in days. What you learn feeds the next loop. Keep the architecture boring — a stack you deploy from a dashboard, not one that impresses other engineers. And QA: AI can write your tests, but the checkpoint before shipping is still human.
Grow. A modern launch isn’t one big day — it’s a repeatable action: one channel, learn, launch again. Here’s the honest part — marketing and sales is where technical founders stall, because building became the easy half. Distribution is the moat now. Community compounds it.
Sustain. Two things keep the whole machine running. Legal and operations is a day of setup, not a reason to delay. And your own energy is the only resource on this map that doesn’t scale. Burn out, and nothing else matters.
That’s the map. Seventeen stages, one journey, every one of them faster than it’s ever been — and every stage here is its own Trood Bite, going deep with real tools and workflows.
So: mark where you are on the map, name your actual bottleneck, and open the Bite for that stage — not the one that’s most fun.
